Well my hope to be online and live already has of course turned into a mere fantasy, as a few tiny glitches kept me waiting for our lead programmer Ben to fix them up before actually adding students to our app and doing a semi official “launch.” The good news is that Ben worked overtime last night and eradicated a couple of the key problems, as well as adding some further interaction between my membership script (Easy Members Pro) and our Flex/GAE e-learning app. When I tell people I’ve been working on a piece of software for nearly a year, they tend to say “hey cool” and then proceed to give me a perplexed look, like they don’t even know what that means. Try using the word RIA on your family members around the Xmas table – you’ll find none of them have a clue what this means :)

Anyway I’ve blogged before about how programmers tend to be my favorite people to work with, in particular the kind that think anything is possible. Ben is that kind of programmer, so it’s been worth the wait to have him do the finishing touches. Another fantastic gal named Monika from Bulgaria has been helping with our activities, and I think they will both be anxiously awaiting the feedback when students begin interacting with their artwork!

So today I’m buried in Flex, trying to get 1 last thing ironed out before adding my first students to the db. We’re also upgrading the membership script itself this weekend, so Monday everybody from the old system will be able to access both the old and the new, until we get all of the older apps like Learn Spanish Verbs Fast, FSI, etc properly integrated.

Another thought of mine today is that the holidays can in fact be a GOOD time to diet, who would have thought that? I’m on day number 9 of the only real diet I’ve been on since having either of my kids. It was time, believe me. I’ve long thought that it isn’t so much having the kids that puts the weight on; it’s raising them! :)
